Current Projects
SC2’s current projects:
- SC2 is working in partnership with Liz Reason, Director of the AECB Carbonlite programme, to develop the outline business plan for a Yorkshire sustainable building skills centre, led by Kirklees Council with the support of Yorkshire Forward, and other regional partners;
- SC2 is working with architect, project management and construction consultancy colleagues to develop proposals and business models for major investment in a portfolio of Sustainable Enterprise Clusters, in the UK and potentially globally;
- SC2 has been leading the coordination of the skills academy and training centre element of the SusCon project, which is seeking to establish an influential sustainable construction training, research and visitor centre in Kent Thameside (the SusCon Centre), alongside a SusCon Sustainable Enterprise Park. The first phase of the SusCon project has already secured £3million to open a state-of-the-art sustainable construction skills centre in Kent Thameside during 2009. SusCon is a key project emerging from the Kent Foresight strategy, which works with a multi-sector partnership in Kent wuth the objective of establishing a strategic approach to delivering many aspects of sustainable development.
Foresight seeks to use flagship sustainable construction projects to strengthen learning and skills delivery, new enterprise and sustainable supply chain development, sustainable public procurement, sustainable product innovation and sustainable manufacturing capacity. The Foresight projects include seeking to establish:
- sustainable enterprise clusters with sustainable innovations labs;
- a major sustainable construction training, research and visitor centre, including a world centre of excellence in design, manufacture and construction R&D for affordable, high quality sustainable accommodation solutions, using modern methods of construction;
- a healthy living, creative industries, knowledge and social enterprise cluster;
The above are intended to all be part of / linked to a major housing and mixed use sustainable communities development. Foresight is also seeking to work with an established FE/HE provider to deliver:
- the creation of a UK, European and world centre of excellence in education for sustainable development;
The Foresight project is aiming for all of these to be best practice examples of sustainable design and construction and to be integrated with pioneering examples of sustainable housing and mixed use sustainable communities development.
