About SC2

SC2 is an independent consultancy focused on the practicalities of achieving sustainability, at national, regional and local level. Founded in 2006, SC2 takes advantage of Steve Charter’s expertise and 20+ year track record in the sustainability field – working in public, private, not-for-profit and education sectors, from grass-roots to national policy level.

SC2's current work includes working with:

  • The Bay Trust - Education Development Manager (part-time) - developing the educational activities of the Trust to achieve its 5 year vision of becoming a significant centre for sustainability and healthy living education, by further developing the special qualities of its two main sites, The Pines Calyx, Europe's lowest impact conference and events centre, and Rippledown Environmental Education Centre, which specialises in residential outdoor learning programmes for schools and young people, often from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • The Good Homes Alliance - Training Associate - developing and delivery GHA's training, including the UK's first Masterclass on Closing the Performance Gap
  • Heritage Wind - a start up business developing wind energy options for prottected landscape areas 
  • Helionix Designs - a design and development company specialising in integrated ecological design and development of ultra low impact construction systems

In the past SC2 has also been involved in:

  • undertaking feasibility study and business planning for Kent County Council to establish SusCon, which became the UK's first dedicated sustainable construction training centre in north Kent
  • co-writing the first Level 3 Diploma and Certificate in Sustainable Construction, and securing its approval to the national qualifications framework (working with Green Gauge Trust)
  • proposing and helping initiate the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development, which later became Ecos Trust
